Dive In: Marine Invertebrates
The living reef is full of many varieties of fish indeed. The hidden gems living within the reef, however, are what make a saltwater environment unique. These are the marine invertebrates that live within the rock work and sand. Starfish, shrimp, snails, and crabs are some examples just to name a few. Invertebrates are the creatures worth searching for in an aquarium; they are often hiding, so it requires a keen and patient eye to find them. Many of these are known among aquarists as members of the "clean-up crew". In an aquarium, you'll find them scavenging leftover food or eating algae off the rocks, glass, and sand. No reef would be complete without these intricate little critters.
